Is Gum Abscess Home Treatment Possible?

Posted on 6/3/2024 by Wilson Dentisty

Can you cure a gum abscess at home? This is a common question. Let us explore this subject more. While getting expert dental care is usually the best course of action for a gum abscess, some at-home treatments could help with symptoms:

Warm Salt Water

Water rinses can eliminate germs and lessen swelling in the afflicted area. Rinse your mouth many times daily with a cup of warm water and a teaspoon of salt.

Turmeric Paste

Turmeric naturally fights germs. Mix turmeric powder and water to create a paste, apply it to the affected area, and let it sit for a few minutes before washing.

Cold Compress

Place an ice pack on the outside of your cheek. This may lessen the pain and swelling from the gum abscess.

Garlic

One well-known antibacterial is garlic. Garlic paste applied to the afflicted area or a clove chewed may help fight against the infection.

Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse

Diluted hydrogen peroxide can be used as a mouthwash to help kill bacteria. Mix equal amounts of water and hydrogen peroxide, then swish it around your mouth for roughly thirty seconds before spitting it out.

When to Visit a Dental Office

Although the above home treatments may offer some short-term relief, they should never be used in place of expert dental care. See a dentist if you think you may have a gum abscess. An abscess can be drained, antibiotics can be prescribed if needed, and any underlying dental problems that might have contributed to the abscess can also be treated.

If you have gum abscess symptoms, seek treatment immediately. Please call our office now to arrange a consultation with one of our skilled dentists. We are here to help you get a healthy, painless smile, as dental health is our first concern.
