Whether your teeth are sensitive to hot or cold things, sugars, flossing, brushing, or acids, you do not have to suffer. There are some remedies to treat sensitive teeth, but first, it will help you to know what exactly can cause your teeth to become sensitive in the first place.
What makes your teeth sensitive
Tooth sensitivity is widespread and starts to happen when the dentin in the inner part of the tooth becomes exposed. Other things that cause sensitive teeth are tooth decay, cracked or chipped teeth, worn enamel or fillings, gum infection and disease, exposed tooth roots, teeth grinding, acidic foods, and over-brushing.
Preventing and Treating Tooth Sensitivity
Some different tooth sensitivity treatments to try are saltwater rinses, changing your toothpaste or toothbrush, using honey and warm water, turmeric, green tea, vanilla extract, and purchasing a mouthguard. Gargling saltwater and rinsing twice a day can help alleviate pain symptoms from sensitive teeth. Hard bristle toothbrushes or abrasive kinds of toothpaste can sometimes aggravate sensitive teeth. Switching to a soft bristle toothbrush and using sensitive toothpaste will reduce the pain. Many people are not aware that honey is an antibacterial agent and can be used for pain reduction, swelling, inflammation, and wound management. Put a spoonful of honey in warm water to reduce tooth sensitivity and rinse your mouth with it. Turmeric is also known to be an anti-inflammatory treatment. Massaging ground turmeric on the teeth is an excellent oral health treatment to relieve sensitive tooth pain. For sensitive teeth, using unsweetened green tea as a mouthwash can reduce swelling and make your teeth stronger. Pouring vanilla extract onto a cotton ball and applying it to your gums for a few minutes can treat sensitive teeth. If you have sensitive teeth because of teeth grinding, your dentist can provide you with a mouthguard that you can wear during the night.
